Volunteers are vital to the work of The Well! In 2018, over 200 volunteers gave countless hours of their time to serve, and without their help The Well Community wouldn’t be able to continue to provide a place to belong for those in the Dallas area who live with life-altering mental illnesses. Our volunteers make The Well a supportive community for our members not only through their tangible, measurable assistance—which they offer so generously—but through their compassion and friendship. I love this time of year. Not only do we get to enjoy the beauty of spring and the pleasure of moderate temperatures, we also have the fun of springtime traditions: egg dying and hunting, games and parties.
Spring also brings my favorite Christian holiday, Easter. There is so much hope in the Easter story. Easter reminds us that where God is there is life. If the dead can be raised then hope can be renewed, the sick can recover and the broken can be restored.
I’m writing this in a lovely rural setting at Mt. Lebanon Camp just south of Dallas, where members of The Well Community are enjoying their semiannual spiritual retreat. At this moment, some are participating in one of our craft-making activities. A few others are lounging in the sun; some are reading books. I hear a few chatting with friends on the porch.
