“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” That famous phrase sums up 2025 for members of the Well Community.
There were many bright moments: retreats, Thursday Night Life, daily devotions, games, crafts, life-skills training and shared meals. Members found friendship, compassion and understanding—a rare refuge from the poverty, stigma and isolation that come with severe mental illness. These moments of connection made it the best of times.
We were able to continue to address practical needs such as clothing and shoes, personal care items and warm, nutritious meals. And as always, we were glad to provide Jacob’s House for men who would otherwise be homeless.
But 2025 also brought deep challenges. Cuts to government funding left many struggling even more—with fewer services, less stability and growing despair. Anxiety and depression intensified, and people turned more and more to the Well seeking help, hope and peace.
As we look to 2026, the need is only growing. We don’t know when, or if, support systems will recover, but we do know our members will continue to rely on us—and in turn, they will continue to rely on our larger community that makes the Well Community possible.
The ongoing generosity of these friends who give of themselves, their time and their resources gives us confidence that we’ll be able to serve our members well in the year to come, no matter what it brings. As we look ahead, we’re deeply thankful for this support that continues through the ups and downs our members face and that makes their best times possible.
With Gratitude,
