In my career serving with nonprofits, I have found that one of the most critical elements for success, yet one of the most challenging to lay hold of, is a cadre of volunteers who are both faithful and proactive. At The Well Community we are fortunate to have a host of such people who work alongside us to bring about good for Well Members.
The Well Auxiliary started just a few years ago but has already made a huge difference. Made up of about 50 individuals, the group regularly serves meals, sponsors events and provides support for the activities of The Well.
On Friday, January 25, the Auxiliary is hosting its annual membership drive event. It’s from 7-9 pm at the Chicken Scratch/The Foundry at 2303 Pittman St. As a member myself, may I encourage you to join us? Grab your own food and drink and then get to know Auxiliary and Board members while enjoying the unique Southern sound of Floramay Holliday and Over the River. Or, if you can’t make it on Friday, you can join or renew your membership with the Auxiliary online (click here). Annual dues are just $50 for an individual and $75 for a couple.
This year the Auxiliary will launch our first ever WellSpring Celebration Luncheon on April 4 at the Belo Mansion. In addition to great food, the event will feature a conversation with Charles Haley—the Dallas Cowboy legend and Hall of Famer. Haley faced the isolating effects of mental illness during his NFL career with his diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Over time, Haley has helped others dealing with mental health challenges find common ground and acceptance—two key values The Well Community provides for its members as they regain stability and purpose.
The word “auxiliary” means to “support or supplement.” But I can tell you, The Well Auxiliary also “sustains and serves” The Well in ways that make their involvement vital to the daily well-being of our members. I’m glad to be a part of the Auxiliary and hope that you’ll join us in this good work.
