Why We Give

The following was written by Jim, one of our donors. We are honoring his request to not provide his last name.

Our family first became involved in The Well about six years ago. Our own son, who deals with bipolar disorder, was a member for a short while—just long enough for us to see the valuable work The Well does and the impact it has on very fragile lives.

The Well is the only faith-based mental health service provider in the area—making sure that those who deal with mental health difficulties have holistic care. Our family feels it is very important that a person struggling with mental illness is treated with dignity and respect, and with attention not just to their illness but also to their whole being. We appreciate that The Well cares for their spiritual needs, not just their mental heath concerns.

Over the years we have made donations to The Well as we have been able, fully confident that those funds would be used in a responsible and effective way. And for several years we have made a point to be especially mindful to give a gift on North Texas Giving Day. On that day our donation is matched by others and thus multiplied into more generous support for The Well.

Just this week my wife and I began considering how much we would be able to contribute on September 22. I hope others will also make a point to participate.
