The Well Community’s celebration to honor volunteers and donors will be held on Sunday, June 5 at the Salon Las Americas (1004 Fort Worth Ave, Dallas). Starting at 3 p.m., the event will feature the Happy Campers Band, children’s activities, original art by members of The Well, food from Oak Cliff eateries and beverages. Advance tickets are available (click here) for $10.00 or at the door for $15.00. There is no charge for children.
“The great things that happen at The Well Community happen because people care,” says Vickie Fisk, Event Chairperson. “That is what this event is about—to celebrate ways volunteers and donors support our neighbors who deal with severe mental illnesses.” Organizers hope the Oak Cliff community and churches around the metroplex will join the festivities. “It is going to be an afternoon of just good fun,” Fisk says. A part of that fun will be 70s and 80s music performed by the local band The Happy Campers.
Members of The Well will be on hand to have fun and to thank those who help with meals, outings and other services of the organization. “Through the efforts of volunteers from about 40 churches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, members of The Well are made to feel like they count,” Fisk states. “However, the volunteers know they get so much more than they give.”
The Well Community cares for and serves those with the profound physical, emotional and spiritual needs associated with mental disorders. Through a holistic approach, The Well provides compassionate programs and services. The organization creates a place of belonging and acceptance for individuals who are otherwise isolated and lonely, and for those who have been stigmatized and forgotten by society.
